History of SOPMOD In the year of 1990s, United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) start a new program - Special Operations Peculiar Modification (or "SOPMOD"), to find a solution for extra requirements of special force infantry weapon, and to assemble all additional combat gears or parts, which allows Special Operatior to configure their weapons to individual preferences and mission requirements. In conclusion, the "SOPMOD M4" were finished. Base on a standard Mil-Spec rail system called "Picatinny Rail"(MIL-STD- 1913 rail), it has been added to a quad rail handguard from Knight Armament, then the rifle and extra gears can be assembled by this standard rail system, made SOPMOD M4 an easy-to-use and could be combination with any accessories which have the same port. After tested and actual use, this system was popular to every U.S. and foreign military units. Even created many similar system and weapon, like the Mk18 Mod0 CQBR of U.S. NAVY.
