About Real SMG Rifle The STEN, also known as the Sten gun, was a British submachine gun that played a significant role in World War II and the Korean War. It was chambered in 9?19mm and saw extensive use by British and Commonwealth forces during these conflicts. The Sten gun was highly regarded for its simplicity of design and low production cost, which allowed for mass production to meet the demand for submachine guns on the battlefield. This made it a widely available weapon for both regular military units and resistance groups operating in occupied Europe. Its straightforward design made it an effective tool for insurgency and guerrilla warfare. Functionally, the Sten gun was a select-fire, blowback-operated weapon with a side-mounted magazine. The name "Sten" was derived from the last names of its chief designers, Major Reginald V. Shepherd and Harold J. Turpin, along with the "En" representing the Enfield factory. During the 1940s, approximately four million Stens were produced in various versions, making it the second most produced submachine gun of World War II, surpassed only by the Soviet PPSh-41. In the 1950s, the Sten was replaced in British service by the Sterling submachine gun, which was based on the Sten's design. The Sten's legacy continued through its impact on subsequent firearms development.
